CD Cover design:
The first attempts

My first attempt at a CD cover. Created in PhotoShop. We Build Fences is an album about the barriers we create between ourselves and others. Or mostly so, a few of the songs don't really fit, but this was also the first album I burned from MP3s, so I was experimenting all the way around. I didn't really realize there was a concept until it was all said & done. The cover photo was a good choice to work with. The sliver in the fold area of the cover is better tho. The main picture on the cover lacks contrast. Too darn flat. It's sucking the life out of me when I look at it. The back cover I like. Ice can have great texture, and the cracks in the ice are great. I shouldn't have used the fancy font for the text on the spine.

Second attempt at a CD cover, also in PhotoShop. The Path Less Taken (a story of each voyage) is about the trip we each take thru life. The insert contains lyrics from each of the songs. The front cover is good. The flower almost could have been left out, but I liked it too darn much so I left it. The right side with the building is nice. The main cover photo of the bike path doesn't really stand up to the test of time for me. If I changed one thing here, that would probably be it. The insert with the lyrics never worked like I visualized. The words don't stand out enuf from the photos. I should have faded the photos somewhat. That might have fixed it. The back cover I still like. I think I could have only used one of the images (either of them) and it would have been good. I'm not sure yet if two images was one too many.

3rd CD cover, done in GIMP under Linux. Fireflies in the Night was inspired by one of the poems I wrote. The back cover is in colour as I had access to a colour printer for once. The front is a bit busy. I think it would have been much better in colour. It also seems too flat in B&W, there is no depth. I like the back much more. It's simple, but would not have worked in black & white. The colours of the sky are what make it.
