17 Sep 98. I know the world is waiting for my reaction to the Klinton / Starr affair. So here it is. Has Klinton done bad things? You bet. I am certain there was some dirty dealing in the Whitewater deals. I am certain Klinton knew exactly what he was doing when he fired the White House travel staff & replaced them with his friends. I am certain that Klinton had Vince Foster murdered in order to protect himself. I am certain that Klinton has had sex with a number of women (other than his wife) in the White House (the return of Kennedy). However, calmer minds must prevail, thus:
Let me start by saying that I have not read the Starr report nor Klintons reply nor do I have any intention of doing so. It's not worth the amount of time I would have to invest. Having said that, all I have heard so far regarding the content of the Starr report is stuff about Klinton & sex. Is there anything in there about Whitewater? The travel office? Vince Foster? Hell, I don't know. After all, the media is so obsessed with the travels of Klintons penis that they don't have much time to tell us anything else.
Let's start here. Klinton is the president. Should the president be having sex with women other than his wife. Well, it worked for Kennedy. Technically, this should be between Klinton, the woman he loves, and his wife. Since he is president however this does open the possibility of some third party attempting to blackmail the president or some similar situation. In this sort of situation a president would have 3 options. Give in to the blackmailer, come clean with the public and take the wind out of the attack, or let the attack come & deal with it. In Klintons case we can feel sure he would give in to the blackmailer in attempt to save his "good name". So, should a president be the sort of person who is morally weak and subject to this sort of pressure. No. However, let us remember that the people of America knew Klinton was morally deficient when the elected him, and when the re-elected him. So, while Klinton is not presidential material, he was elected by people who knew he was not presidential material. In addition he was elected by less than 50% of the actual population, further, he was elected by a completely different process than is specified in the constitution. My view is that people deserve whatever they ask for. The people asked for Klinton to be president because they either:
a. Participated in the fraudulent elections engineered to fool people into believing they have some control over the government.
b. Have not made any attempt to overthrow the government and secure their freedom, thus trading freedom for security.
End result, Klinton 1, Starr 0. For Klinton to have sex with other people is acceptable. The people of this country wanted Klinton, they got Klinton. The people made their bed, now they have to sleep in it. With Klinton.
Game two. It's been said that Klinton lied about these relationships under oath. If this is true - if Klinton lied under oath about anything - he should be punished in the same way that anyone else would. It's been said that Klinton tried to influence people to lie and cover up for him. If this is true, again he should be punished in the same way the law provides for anyone who would do the same things. Point Starr, Klinton 1, Starr 1. The president is not above the law.
Game three. Why exactly did Klinton lie about having sex with other women
under oath? Or to put it differently, why was Klinton asked this question under oath in
the first place? I have no clue in what context this question arose in the first place. If this
line of inquiry was pursued while attempted to assertion information regarding another
matter, it is a legitimate questions. For example:
Q: Mr. Klinton, where we you the night Vince Foster got a bullet in the brain?
A: Well, I was not having sex with an intern that's for sure.
However, did someone just decide "Hey, let's check out Klinton's sex life". As I have already pointed out, we knew long ago that Klinton has no morals. To actually spend time investigating something we all know already is silly. Further, as I have pointed out, who Klinton screws (physically screws that is) is not our business.
At this point then, I must say that I can't honest pick a side on this until I know exactly under what context the question originally came up. If there was a legitimate reason to question Klinton's sexual activity, then he should be slammed (if he did lie under oath or ask others to do the same). If however, the original question was not legitimate, then the whole thing should be dropped.
Tie game, Klinton 2, Starr 2.
Now apparently Klinton claims he did not lie under oath, because he was asked if he had "sexual relations" with Lewinsky. He said no, she said yes. Klinton has justified this by saying that a blow job is not a sexual relationship. I quote "To the president, the term reasonably requires sexual intercourse." This move is amazingly stupid on the part of Klinton (not like it's his first stupid move tho). If we are going to redefine sexual relations as requiring actual intercourse (insert tab A into slot B) do you have any idea of all the things that are now no longer sex? For example (since kiddy porn is such a hot button these days) if a 50 year old man has a 12 year old girl give him a blow job, this is no longer a sexual relation, thus it's perfectly acceptable. After all, they didn't have intercourse. Most of us realize that the insertion of the penis into the vagina in not required to have sex. Sometimes it's even more fun that way. One time I . . . well, nevermind.
Klinton 2, Starr 3.
Final word, what do we do about it? Nothing. Yes, nothing. Do I care which wins the game? Not in the slightest. And why not? Because no matter who wins, I lose. Starr is still getting paid to do this, and he's in all the headlines. Klinton will survive as he has done so far. The media is loving the hell out of this because the get to run stupid stories about the whole thing. Parents are concerned with how to present the Starr report to their children as it has sexual information in it. The release of the Starr report on the internet was a giant boost to a mostly useless aspect of technology. All the power players are immune to the fallout and I haven't the slightest concern or sympathy for any of them.
So far my predictions for the Klinton presidency have been wrong. After the first 2 years of Klinton rule I made the following prediction. Klinton will be disgraced before his first 4 years are up, Hillary will divorce him and in the next election run against him. Further, she will win. Well, I was wrong as hell about that one. So, my new prediction for the Klinton rule: Bill will slide thru like a champ. There will continue to be nips at his heels, but no real damage. He will make the rest of his term with his name and his marriage in tact. DO NOT discount Hillary for president however. The "rain" of the second Klinton would be a real storm.
