Precious Memories
I have a stack of books containing photographs
Frozen images of tears and laughs
Moments to never come again
Lost coordinates of where & when
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
I see the people I use to know
Remember the places I use to go
Roses my mother use to grow
Walking shirtless in the snow
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
Air guitar in the swimming pool
Long hair & shades looking cool
Drinking beer & smoking cigars
People being proud of their cars
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
My kitty cats whom i miss so bad
All the friends I ever had
Moments of glory in the sun
Times of insanity & fun
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
The years in uniform went by so fast
Trust so strong that even still does it last
Regardless of misery and decent to hell
A climb to glory that we did not fail
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
The crowd gathered for the festival
The performers in full spectacle
The bestest muffins that you've ever seen
The bestest places I've ever been
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
Battleships & monuments
Grave stones & testaments
Meetings, reunions & good-byes
Truths, half truths & little while lies
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
In the wings & behind the stage
In the greenroom memorizing the page
Opening night & final show
The moments when people have to go
How I do need these . . .
Precious memories
And how they tear me apart
How they grapple with my heart
How they bring tears to my eyes
How I tell myself the lies
Moments of now are not like moments of then
And I don't know where to begin
Getting back to the people & places I need
I can't find the soil to plant the seed
How I do need to create more . . .
Precious memories
