Only Acting

You say we're friends,
and it will always be so,
but you have a secret I know.
So we hold hands
and cuddle up close.
You pour on affection
till I overdose.
It looks like we are attracting,
but I know you are only acting
and I don't mind.

It's all a show with curtains & lights.
Shakespearean actors decked out in tights.
There are curtains to mask what shouldn't been seen.
Premadonna on the stage that primp & preen.
In the center of it all you control the orchestration
expecting the audience to give a standing ovation.
You call me your co-star & offer equal billing
but I know it's only a walk on part that I am filling.
It looks like we are attracting,
but I know you are only acting
and I don't mind.

We dance in the light,
then take curtain calls.
Loving gaze at the audience
as the curtain falls.
Your hand is in mine
as we walk off the stage.
I am only window dressing
to brighten your cage.
It looks like we are attracting,
but I know you are only acting
and I don't mind.
