a box of rain

open your hands
receive my gift
enchanting spells of possibility
to use as you wish
breath in the wind
drink of the river
plant on the land

no item more precious
have I to bestow
no knowledge more truthful
have I to teach

I give you
a golden feather
a coyote pelt
a spirit map
a name
they do not equate

take this gift of life
walk with it reverently
passed to your children
passed to your children's children
far more fragile
than a box of rain
