Because I Couldn't Help It

Where were you,
when you were needed?
Standing alone,
I prayed you'd arrive.
Dazed & confused,
warnings not heeded.
Deed is done,
leaving me barely alive.

And who are you to say "told you so"?
As if you were the only one to know.
I dared to try, I dared to fail.
Beyond the sunset is the ocean I sail.
Beyond danger, come what may,
tho I may not live to see another day.
No matters, no consequence,
no damnation, no evidence.

So where were you, when you were needed?
Leaving me, arms & eyes open wide.
How I begged, how I pleaded.
None of it mattered, once I knew you had lied.

I loved you once, because I couldn't help it.
I loved you twice, because I was a fool.
