I had the space for 4 weeks. I didn't want things to be static. I arranged to change the photos on display each week. This seemed a good idea, when it started. I hung the first weeks photos, and had the second weeks photos ready to go. I then began to work on the photos for the third week. This set was ready in time. However things got interesting for the fourth week. I managed to get the final set ready literally moments before it was time to hang them.
Due to this, my last set was... different... than the first three. I was not looking so much for the technically flawless side as I was for the artistic effect. Being artsy requires less time and precision than being technically anal.
These scans may be a bit fuzzy. All of these prints are mounted on 11 x 14 matt board. As a result they did not quite lay flat on the scanning surface.
Also I noticed a few of these prints are starting to show signs that they were not properly processed. A few have areas of discolouration forming where they were not fixed enough, or not rinsed enough. You can easily see these areas on the originals as they are brown. Here in these greyscale scans I'm not sure how they will look. But if you find a strange looking splotch, that's what it is. A lesson for all you photographers out there, don't cut corners.
Technical Data: All paper is Ilford Multigrade IV. A few of these are matt, but most are glossy. The film used is either Ilford HP5+, Ilford Delta 400 or 100, Kodak 3200, and one of these photos (the three girls trying to keep warm) is on Kodak T-Max 100. Everything you see here was produced in the darkroom. No computer manipulation involved. All film and prints developed and processed by me.
Artistic Notes: I look back on these photos now, and I think that many of them bite. But this is a good thing. I believe that if an artist is growing then this is natural. Works that an artist once considered to be wonderful productions of his talent soon become mediocre in his eyes. I could have left out the stuff I didn't like, but I wanted to put the whole thing up here. Along with many of these photos you will find notes about the subject, process or whatever. Along with my photos I also hung some text. There was an introduction, some essays, some quotes, stuff like that. I am a writer & a poet I have the need to express myself in words as well as pictures.
A technical note. Usually I set up my pages to look good at 640 x 480 resoultion. I know not everyone has the latest technology, so I like to stay at the "lowest" level I can. In this case however the photos are larger than 640 x 480. I decided I wanted them to be larger so more detail could be seen. So, if you use 640 x 480 you will have to scroll around. Sorry 'bout that.
