26 FEB 99 - The newest suburban assault vehicle is coming. "The Ford Valdez. Have you driven a tanker lately?", or so ask the Sierra Club. Normally I wouldn't agree with anything the Sierra Club says (as they are a bunch of watermellons) but ya gotta give credit where credit is due. The Ford Excursion (what a name) is on the way. 3.5 tons, 19 feet long, and 99.9% of them will never leave the pavement. At 12 miles to a gallon, it's a hell of a deal.
Also in the news today, the Honda CR-V, the Kia Sportage and Isuzu Rodeo rolled over in the side-impact test. In this test a movable barrier is rammed into the side of the vehicle at either 33.5 or 38.5 mph. I quote "the test dummies fared well but the three vehicles rolled on their sides . . ." The end result, these 3 vehicles will get 5 stars for safty, but with an asterisk. The bottom line, if you are a dummy you are safe.
